Updates, Reviews, & a Recommendation or Two

Hello Everybody!

Wow. It has been way too long since I’ve wrote a blog post, but in my defense I have been pretty busy writing book three in The Marked Series, which brings me to the Updates portion. I am happy (and a little sad) to say I am nearing the finish line. After that Redemption will be off to my beta readers, polished to perfection, and then released upon the world. But in the meantime, be sure to keep an eye out for the cover reveal as well as a sneak peek of the opening scene–coming soon–to whet the appetite of your Inner Reader Beast.

Now for the Reviews & Recommendations portion.

Over the last several months not only have I been busy writing, I’ve also been busy reading–well, when ever I can squeeze it in…while cooking dinner…waiting to pick the kids up from school…during commercials when I’m watching my favorite shows…You get the idea. And so now I thought I’d share with you the last three books that caught my interest. First up…

Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things

by

Martina McAtee

First off, I absolutely love the cover for Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things, as well as the title, and I’ll admit it’s what first drew me to the book. Then I read the blurb and became completely enthralled with the concept. I had to read it. And let me tell you, I was hooked from the beginning. Who wouldn’t be with a world teaming with witches, wizards, reapers, shifters, and faeries? Told in multiple points of view—which I absolutely love because it allows for the reader to get a better feel for the characters when you can see what’s going on in their heads—there was never a dull moment. The author also did an excellent job of fleshing out all the characters so they feel real, making your concern for what happens to them genuine. As for the actual writing, it was superb. Once I started reading I did not want to put it down. I was literally intrigued from the very first paragraph. And once I finished it, I immediately went and bought the second book in the series – Dark Dreams and Dead Things.

If you love the paranormal, a good supernatural mystery, interesting characters (Kai, Mace, and Ember are my favs), and a few steamy scenes here and there, then do yourself a favor and pick this book up. You wont regret it. But be warned. Once you read Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things be prepared to buy Dark Dreams and Dead Things. Actually, just buy them both now and save some time.

Dark Dreams and Dead Things

by

Martina McAtee

I absolutely loved, loved, LOVED the first book (Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things) in Martina McAtee’s Dead Things Series and could not wait to get my hands on Dark Dreams and Dead Things. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I loved it just as much as the first. After a cool little introduction of all the main players, book two picks up right where book one left off, drawing me into the story again. I had to know what was going to happen next, and with all the twists and turns (one of which is HUGE), I was sucked right back in. The only disappointing part was when I reached the last page because I wanted to read more, especially when things were about to get good. Ahh, it’s killing me having to wait for book three’s release, but wait I will, and in the meantime, maybe I’ll start over with book one. The Dead Things Series as definitely become one of my favorites.

Influence

by

David R Bernstein

I loved the cover and was intrigued by the blurb, so I bought this book as a birthday gift for myself and I’m so glad I did. Right from the very beginning Influence jumps right into action when Kaylin and her best friend Amanda find themselves knee deep in a potentially bad situation when they discover whom exactly it is they just rescued. Throw in Kaylin’s “push” ability, two sides of a war fighting for control over what’s left of the world, and you’ve got a fast paced story you can’t put down. And the ending…wow…what a perfect twist to set up book two. Can’t wait to read the next installment.
